NatWest Appoints UBS's Emma Crystal to Replace Coutts Chief

By Elena Vardon

NatWest named Emma Crystal as the head of its wealth businesses arm and private bank Coutts, replacing the executive who stepped down amid the fallout from the closure of Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage's account.

She replaces Peter Flavel, who stepped down from his role in July following the controversy, which also cost NatWest chief executive officer Alison Rose her job. Mohammad Kamal Syed had been serving as interim CEO for Coutts and the wealth Businesses division since.

Subject to regulatory approval, Crystal will take on the role this summer, NatWest said Thursday. She will join from Swiss peer UBS, where she is a lead in its Sustainable Finance Group, and has previously worked at Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank.
