Sibanye-Stillwater Considers Job Cuts at South Africa Project

By Anthony O. Goriainoff

Sibanye-Stillwater will start consulting with workers and stakeholders over the possible restructuring of its gold operations in South Africa, it said Thursday.

The Johannesburg-listed precious-metals miner said the possible restructuring could potentially affect 2,389 employees and 581 contractor workers at the shaft.

The move stems from continuing losses over an extended period as well as operational constraints at the Kloof 4 shaft, the company said.

The company said consultations follow several unsuccessful attempts to address productivity issues and other operational constraints at the shaft.
