Trending: China Eastern Airlines Takes Comac Passenger Jet on Maiden Flight
0510 GMT - China Eastern Airlines is one of the most mentioned companies in the news over the past 12 hours, according to Factiva data, after it flew passengers from Shanghai to Beijing on a C919 jet, marking the made-in-China aircraft's maiden flight. More than 10,000 people vied for the 30 seats on sale to the public, with officials and journalists taking up the rest of the seats, state media reported. The C919 was developed and built by Commercial Aircraft Corp. of China, known as Comac, and it will compete with the single-aisle Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320. It is one of five that China Eastern has ordered from Comac, which will be aiming to take a meaningful share of the more than 6,000 new single-aisle jets that China will likely need in the next two decades.
