Halcyon Welcomes Nick Chaset to its Board as Independent Director
Energy sector veteran brings regulatory and public utility expertise to help scale AI-powered energy market intelligence platform
Halcyon, the AI platform for energy, announced today that it has appointed Nick Chaset, CEO of Octopus Energy US and CEO of Uplight, to its Board of Directors as an Independent Director, effective September 1st, 2026.
“Adding Nick strengthens our board with a leader who knows what it takes to build and scale category-defining global businesses,” said Bruce Falck, CEO and Board Chair, Halcyon. “He brings a deep understanding of the regulatory processes supporting U.S. power markets and has well-established relationships with senior executives across the energy sector which we are excited to leverage to help us better serve our customers.”
Chaset is CEO of Octopus Energy US, where he runs both a retail electricity business and its flexibility services, and this month was also named CEO of Uplight, the demand-flexibility platform in which Octopus Energy Group recently took a majority stake. Prior to Octopus, he was the founding CEO of Ava Community Energy, growing the Bay Area community choice aggregator for over seven years to serve 1.7 million people. He also served as Chief of Staff to California Public Utilities Commission President Michael Picker and as a special advisor to Governor Jerry Brown on distributed energy resources.
"My work at Octopus and Uplight is about getting more out of the grid we have today. Delivering flexible solutions that are better, cheaper, and more reliable requires technology that transforms the high-volume high-velocity regulatory information firehose into a competitive advantage,” said Chaset. “That’s exactly what Halcyon does. Bruce has assembled an incredible team that is building technological infrastructure underpinning the rapidly growing energy market, and I'm grateful to be a part of it."
Chaset joins Falck and existing Halcyon board members Nat Bullard (Chief Strategy Officer & co-founder, Halcyon), Tyler Lancaster (Partner & Co-Head of Ventures, Energize Capital), and Tanuj Dutta (General Partner, Congruent Ventures).
Halcyon makes complex and fragmented energy information discoverable, actionable, and valuable. Unlike general-purpose AI tools, Halcyon is built on the most comprehensive catalog of energy regulatory data available — spanning all 50 U.S. state public utility commissions, every independent system operator (ISO) and regional transmission organization (RTO), the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and state environmental agencies — and validated by energy domain experts to ensure its outputs are accurate enough to inform real business decisions.
