WCM Investment Management announced on Jan. 31, 2023, that Pete Hunkel will retire on March 31, 2023, for health reasons. This does not affect WCM Focused International Growth's High People Rating or its Morningstar Analyst Rating of Gold. This deep, collaborative team is well equipped to weather the upcoming departure. Hunkel joined the firm in 2001 and specialized in portfolio construction, playing a key role in the firm’s approach to position sizing and portfolio diversification. Hunkel's departure will be a loss, but lead manager Mike Trigg has worked closely with Hunkel since joining the firm in 2006 and the two have been at the helm of the strategy since its May 2011 inception. Comanagers Sanjay Ayer, Jon Tringale, and Paul Black, as well as WCM's global-growth team of more than 15 analysts and portfolio managers, continue to support Trigg in his research efforts. Having so many others involved mitigates key-person risk. Personnel turnover at WCM is rare. Aside from Kurt Winrich's well-telegraphed retirement at the end of 2021, no managers have left the strategy. Over the past three years, just one analyst left the firm's global-growth team. This team remains on solid footing and is still among the best in the foreign large-growth Morningstar Category.
