Harris Associates, advisor of the Oakmark funds, announced several portfolio manager changes across its fund lineup on Aug. 1, 2022. On the U.S. equity side, Alex Fitch and Robert Bierig became comanagers on Oakmark Select alongside Bill Nygren and Tony Coniaris. Fitch has 12 years of investment experience, 11 of them with Harris. He assumed the director of U.S. research role in October 2021 from Win Murray, who stepped off the fund at that time and subsequently left the firm. Considering Oakmark Select draws upon the team’s highest-conviction ideas, the director of U.S. research has long served as a comanager, including Murray and his predecessor Henry Berghoef, so Fitch’s addition does not come as a surprise. Bierig—who is also becoming a comanager on the more diversified Oakmark offering with Nygren and Michael Nicolas—joined the firm in 2012 and has 23 years of investment experience. He’s managed some institutional versions of the U.S. equity strategies for several years as well as the Luxembourg-domiciled Harris Associates U.S. Value Equity since 2014.
