Neuberger Berman has announced portfolio manager Judy Vale’s intention to step down from day-to-day decision-making for the Neuberger Berman Small Cap strategy, including Neuberger Berman Genesis, in January 2024. At that time, Vale will transition to a newly created portfolio strategist role, in which she will provide investment guidance and analysis to the strategy’s three remaining portfolio managers and their analyst team. After Vale steps back, the strategy will be comanaged by the remaining three members of the portfolio management team--Robert D’Alelio, Brett Reiner, and Greg Spiegel--who will share decision-making authority for the portfolio. This trio has comanaged the strategy with Vale since 2019. D’Alelio’s management of the strategy dates back to 1996, while Reiner and Spiegel have been associate portfolio managers since 2016. Given the length of the transition period and the portfolio managers’ collective longevity with the team and approach, the strategy’s People rating stays at Above Average and its Morningstar Medalist Ratings remain Silver to Bronze, depending on the share class and vehicle fees. A review is scheduled in the coming months, and an updated view will be published soon after.
