The team that runs MFS Massachusetts Investors Trust MITTX will remain solid even after an upcoming manager departure. Kevin Beatty, who has managed the strategy since 2004 and is the firm’s co-CIO of equity for the Americas, will retire on Sept. 30, 2021. He’ll leave the strategy in the capable hands of Ted Maloney and Allison O’Neill Mackey, who have comanaged the strategy since 2012 and 2018, respectively, and also hold leadership positions at the firm. Maloney is CIO, while Mackey is co-CIO of equity for the Americas. Beatty’s transition off the strategy will be gradual, and Maloney and Mackey are skilled investors who will continue to leverage the firm’s deep research team to fill the portfolio. Thus, the strategy maintains its Above Average People rating. The strategy’s sound and proven approach will remain intact, and its cheapest shares keep their Morningstar Analyst Rating of Silver, while its pricier shares stay at Bronze.
