Comanager Departs MFS Growth After a Brief Leave of Absence; Ratings Unchanged

Analyst Note

Comanager Paul Gordon will retire from MFS Growth on April 3, 2023, but his departure does not affect the strategy's Morningstar Analyst Ratings of Silver and Bronze. Gordon took a medical leave of absence at the beginning of 2023, so his retirement does not come as a big surprise. The strategy will continue to be well-resourced. MFS is deliberate about succession planning, and the firm appointed Bradford Mak as a comanager in June 2021 alongside Eric Fischman. Gordon's experience will certainly be missed, but Fischman has managed this strategy for over 20 years, and Mak has spent more than a decade at MFS, including a stint as the technology sector lead. Fischman and Mak also still have MFS' skilled central research team at their disposal, which they lean on heavily. Given Mak's recent appointment, it is not expected for MFS to backfill Gordon's role in the near future.
