Analyst Note

MFS announced that John Mahoney will become a manager on the team that oversees MFS International Diversification on Jan. 1, 2024, alongside current managers Nick Paul and Camille Humphries Lee (who, as MFS previously announced, will retire on May 1, 2024.) Mahoney has a solid resume being an oversight manager on this fund of funds. He has spent 18 years at MFS and has ample experience as a senior strategist/investment product specialist on this strategy and several of its underlying offerings. Paul, an oversight manager on this offering since January 2022, is an MFS veteran with 25 years of investment experience, so he has good credentials for the task at hand as well. Humphries Lee, an oversight manager on this offering since September 2018, is an MFS veteran with 34 years of investment experience, and she will be missed. But her retirement is still six months away—and she will work alongside Mahoney as well as Paul for four months before she leaves—so her transition off the strategy should be quite smooth. Meanwhile, a sizable and seasoned quant team, which handles the daily rebalancing and monitors the allocation mix of this fund of funds, remains in place. And this strategy will continue to invest in the same six underlying offerings—and with the same allocations—as it does now, and the personnel and other strengths of those offerings remain intact. For all these reasons, the fund of funds’ People and Process ratings of Above Average remain the same.
