An Impending Manager Retirement Doesn't Impact This Fund's Ratings

On Oct. 3, 2022, American Funds announced that Dina Perry, an equity portfolio manager on American Funds Income Fund of America since 1992, will retire on Dec. 31, 2022, after 30 years with Capital Group and 44 years in the investment industry. This marks the second equity portfolio manager retirement from this fund in 2022, but the fund will remain well-stocked with experienced income investors, including six equity managers. And Perry’s transition was well-planned; her share of the fund’s assets dropped to 6% by September 2021, down from 13% at the end of 2019. Given the modest impact of this change, the fund retains its Above Average People rating and its Morningstar Analyst Ratings range of Gold to Bronze depending on the share class.
