Axon reported second-quarter sales growth of 35.3% year over year. Management raised full-year revenue growth guidance to a range of 32%-34%, but shares fell after market close on Aug. 5.

Axon’s suite of hardware and software plays a critical role in the technological backbone of modern law enforcement agencies. For decades, the Taser saw little commercial success, held down by immense legal pushback and regulatory barriers. Axon’s founder, Patrick Smith, improved upon the flawed technology and eventually brought the TASER to commercial success. Axon needed proof that TASERs weren’t the primary cause of death in most police encounters, so in 2009 it introduced the police body-worn camera and a cloud-hosted repository, Evidence.com, to record incidents and store untampered video and audio evidence.
