Starbucks Earnings: Prudent Investment Drives Ongoing Comparable Sales Gains; Shares Expensive

Starbucks served up 7.9% North American comparable sales growth in the fourth quarter, supported by 5% ticket and 2.7% traffic lifts. International comps were weaker, growing just 0.9%. Sales leverage and lower overhead helped widen adjusted operating margin by 450 basis points to 14%.
