Summary

The Carlyle AlpInvest Private Markets strategy, which has a deeply experienced team and thoughtful portfolio and liquidity management, provides investors with diversified private equity exposure, and it does so in a prudent manner given its semiliquid nature. The portfolio is ultimately a reflection of the entire AlpInvest platform, a largely independent group within Carlyle, both from a team perspective and an investment one. While there are four named comanagers on the strategy, they are not hand-selecting deals to go into this portfolio. Rather, the portfolio is designed to hold a piece of essentially every deal that the broader AlpInvest platform invests in. This setup helps avoid potential conflicts in terms of which funds on AlpInvest’s platform get access to which deals. It also means that underwriting standards are the same across all funds, and deals are not closed for the sole purpose of going into this (or any other) portfolio.
