Teamsters Back Pro-Labor Candidate for Governor of New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Oct 23, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Teamsters Local 399 and Local 492 endorsed Secretary Deb Haaland (D) for Governor of New Mexico.

"Throughout her career, Sec. Haaland has always supported the working people of New Mexico," said Andrew Palmer, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 492. "She is not only willing to show her support for labor through policy but also with action. Sec. Haaland has had our backs, so we will have hers this November."

From her time as Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico through her tenure as U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Haaland has consistently supported working people. In 2018, her Congressional campaign was the first campaign in New Mexico to unionize. During her time in Congress, she twice served as an original cosponsor of the PRO Act. Haaland, a former Teamster, joined striking Local 492 members on the picket line at Creamland Dairy's Albuquerque plant during their fight for better pay and working conditions last year.

"New Mexico's middle class deserves a Governor who knows the importance of a stable job, and that candidate is Sec. Haaland," said Lindsay Dougherty, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 399 and Director of the Teamsters Motion Picture and Theatrical Trade Division. "She has promised to build on the state's dedication to supporting union jobs and uplifting communities by investing in film and television. We look forward to working with Sec. Haaland on bringing stability and growth to New Mexico's film industry."

Building upon the funding the Lujan Grisham Administration has put toward New Mexico's Film Office, Sec. Haaland has pledged to open regional field offices dedicated to growing the industry through the creation of good-paying union jobs.
