Largely unseen photographs, shot on Leica film cameras, mark the 40th anniversary of Laurie Anderson's groundbreaking performance film and album.
NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Leica Gallery New York is pleased to announce Les Fincher: Behind the Scenes of Laurie Anderson's Home of the Brave, opening October 29th and on view through December 6, 2026. Fincher served as the on-set still photographer for Anderson's groundbreaking 1986 performance film Home of the Brave, tasked with communicating the spirit of the film in still images. With unlimited access throughout production, Fincher captured the experience of working with Anderson and her performers, both on stage and behind the scenes, using four Leica film cameras to move in tandem with the performance while staying out of the way of the shot.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Home of the Brave's theatrical release, alongside the album of the same name. The exhibition brings together a mix of vintage and modern prints, the majority of which have never before been seen, offering an intimate glimpse into the creative process behind a singular moment in Anderson's career.
On November 12th, Fincher will discuss photographing the making of the film, his experience working with Anderson and the performers, and the photographs that document this singular moment in her career.
As part of the exhibition program, Leica Gallery New York will host an opening reception on Thursday, October 29th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, inviting guests to experience the exhibition in person. Leica Gallery New York will also host a Gallery Talk with Les Fincher on Thursday, November 12th, at 6:30 PM. RSVP required via Eventbrite for both events.
This exhibition reflects Leica Gallery New York's ongoing commitment to celebrating the art of visual storytelling and connecting exceptional photographers with audiences, collectors, and the broader photographic community.
