PALO ALTO, Calif., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Sofia University, a WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC)-accredited institution, is expanding its graduate computer science offerings with the launch of a new Doctor of Machine Learning (DML), a professional doctorate designed to prepare advanced practitioners, researchers, educators, engineers, and technology leaders for the evolving artificial intelligence and machine learning landscape.
The 72-quarter-hour program builds on Sofia's existing computer science curriculum, which includes the Master of Science in Computer Science and graduate certificates, including the Graduate Certificate in AI and Machine Learning. AI and Machine Learning is also the primary and most popular concentration within Sofia's MSCS program.
Designed to integrate rigorous theory with practical application, the DML provides advanced study in machine learning mathematics, algorithms, artificial intelligence, data science, engineering, research, and emerging technologies. The curriculum also examines the ethical, legal, and societal implications of machine learning, reflecting Sofia University's transformative and transpersonal approach to education.
Students will gain real-world experience through a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program and complete a final capstone project. The DML will be offered 100% online and in hybrid formats, with independent study opportunities. Students taking two courses per quarter can complete the program in approximately three years, while motivated students taking three courses per quarter may finish in approximately 2.5 years.
The program is designed for candidates holding a master's degree in a computationally technical field, including computer science, computer engineering, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, information technology, applied mathematics, or relevant engineering disciplines.
Sofia is well positioned to deliver the DML through existing faculty expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning. The program also draws strength from the University's locations in Silicon Valley and Silicon Beach and faculty practitioners connected to these ecosystems.
Through its STEM-focused, industry-centered curriculum, the DML will help students develop technical, research, analytical, leadership, and managerial capabilities for applying machine learning across science, technology, business, and engineering environments.
The Doctor of Machine Learning adds doctoral-level depth to Sofia University's growing computer science portfolio while advancing its commitment to innovative, applied, and responsible technology education. As a WSCUC-accredited institution, Sofia brings academic standards to this doctoral offering while strengthening education for professionals prepared to contribute responsibly to artificial intelligence.
