Specialized sliplining and infrastructure rehabilitation contractor strengthens Vortex Services Northeast and expands self-performed capabilities
HOUSTON, Sept. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Vortex Companies (Vortex), a leading provider of trenchless water and sewer infrastructure rehabilitation solutions, today announced the acquisition of CLH & Son, Inc. (CLH), an Auburn, Maine-based infrastructure contractor specializing in sliplining, concrete rehabilitation, excavation, drainage improvements and related utility services.

"We're seeing growing demand across the Northeast and continuing to expand our ability to serve that market," said Mike Vellano, Chief Executive Officer of Vortex Companies. "CLH brings proven execution and complementary capabilities that strengthen our ability to self-perform a broader range of rehabilitation projects and deliver more for customers across the region."
Founded in 1979 by Calvin Hunter and now led by Travis Stearns, CLH has built a strong reputation serving municipalities, state departments of transportation, utilities and contractors throughout New England. The company specializes in addressing aging storm and sewer systems and related underground infrastructure.
"Joining Vortex gives our team the opportunity to build on what CLH has established over more than four decades while bringing an even broader set of solutions to our customers," said Travis Stearns, Chief Executive Officer of CLH & Son. "Together, we can provide infrastructure owners with the right combination of technologies, services and field expertise to tackle increasingly complex rehabilitation needs."
CLH will become part of Vortex Services Northeast, adding an experienced team in specialized infrastructure rehabilitation. The combination creates opportunities to enhance project delivery, expand service offerings and leverage operational best practices across Vortex's growing regional platform. "This acquisition expands both the types and scale of projects we can pursue in the Northeast," said Ram Vela, Chief Strategy Officer of Vortex Companies. "It strengthens our regional platform and positions us to capture a greater share of a growing market."
