NEW YORK, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dr. Sergio Sokol Scholarship for Future Doctors officially opens its national application process, inviting aspiring physicians from across the country to apply for higher education support. Created by Dr. Sergio Sokol, a board-certified cardiologist based in New York City, the program provides funding to dedicated undergraduate, graduate, and medical students who demonstrate academic commitment, integrity, and a passion for community healthcare service.
To qualify, applicants must be current undergraduate, graduate, or medical students, or graduating high school seniors accepted into an accredited post-secondary institution. Candidates must intend to pursue a career as a physician or doctor of medicine and remain in good academic standing. Selection relies on academic dedication and an original essay submission.
Applicants must write an original essay responding to the following prompt:
"What inspires you to become a physician, and how do you hope to improve the lives of your future patients and the communities you will serve?"
The selection committee evaluates responses based on narrative clarity, personal motivation, and alignment with core clinical values, including empathy, perseverance, leadership, and public service.
