Silver falls as much as 13% as the volatility continues in metals
By Steve Goldstein
Silver had a tumultuous Wednesday evening of trade.
Silver futures fell as much as 13% late Wednesday as volatility in the precious metals complex continued.
Silver (SI00) fell to a low of $73.39 an ounce before recently trading around $80.
"This is liquidation selling coming out of China," wrote Alexander Campbell, the former head of commodities at Bridgewater Associates and now the CEO of Black Snow Capital. "Someone got the tap on the shoulder."
Gold (GC00) was slightly weaker, at $4,942.80 an ounce, having been unable to hold $5,000 on Wednesday.
Both metals have seen rocky trading since Friday's sell-off, the worst in 46 years for gold.
