Here are the new release dates for January's jobs and CPI inflation reports

The brief U.S. government shutdown forced the rescheduling of key economic data

All of the federal government was open Wednesday after Congress resolved a short budget impasse that left many offices closed.

The U.S. employment report for January, originally due out this Friday, has been rescheduled for the middle of next week, while the release of the consumer-price index, a closely watched inflation gauge, was also pushed back a couple of days.

The jobs report is now set to be published on Wednesday, Feb. 11 - five days after its previously scheduled release.

The CPI report, initially set to come out Feb. 11, has been moved back two days to Friday, Feb. 13.

These two reports are the most critical in helping Wall Street and Washington understand what is happening in the U.S. economy. The Federal Reserve, for instance, decides whether to raise or lower interest rates in part based on what these two indicators show.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics, publisher of the reports, postponed their release after the agency was forced to close on Monday and Tuesday due to a brief, partial government shutdown. Funding for the government ran out over the weekend, and Congress didn't approve a new budget until late Tuesday.
