A good run might be coming to an end for the stock, but Plug Power is riding a wave of interest in energy alternatives

Plug Power is riding a wave of interest in alternative energy sources.

Shares of Plug Power Inc. are nearing the end of a winning streak on Tuesday, but not before nearly doubling during that run, as Wall Street is broadly optimistic about the alternative-energy company's future.

Plug Power's stock (PLUG) is poised to snap a nine-day winning streak, its best since a run of the same length in September 2019.

The stock gained about 90% during that streak and is up 68% so far this month, on pace for its best gain since June 2025, when it rose 69%.

Investors are bullish on alternative-energy companies in general, "as they see the technology having a role to play for data centers and power demand needs," TD Securities analyst Jeff Osborne said.

Plug Power last month reported quarterly sales and gross margins above consensus, and cheered investors by keeping a target to get to gross-margin break-even by the end of the year. It also kept plans to start construction on a plant in Texas by year's end.

The company said earlier this month that its Georgia plant had its strongest month on record in August, delivering 324 metric tons of "green" hydrogen.

The stock has gained about 20% so far this year, compared with an advance of 13% for the S&P 500 SPX. It's down about 16% from a 52-week closing high of $3.15 on Jan. 6 but has nearly quadrupled in price since a 52-week closing low of 70 cents on May 15.
