OpenAI launches new 'flagship' GPT-4o model, touting improved speed and performance

The AI startup says its new model improves on GPT-4's capabilities across text, voice, and vision
OpenAI has unveiled GPT-4o, the company's latest "flagship" artificial-intelligence model, which it said offers improvements in speed and performance.
GPT-4o has GPT-4-level intelligence but is much faster, according to OpenAI Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati, who noted that it is two times faster than GPT-4 Turbo. The new model also improves on GPT-4's capabilities across text, voice and vision, she said during a press event Monday.
GPT-4o's language capabilities have also been enhanced, with ChatGPT now supporting more than 50 languages.

The privately held company also said it will be rolling out more intelligence and advanced tools to ChatGPT for free.
There was no partnerships update at Monday's OpenAI event. Last week, Bloomberg reported that Apple Inc. (AAPL) and OpenAI have been finalizing terms for a deal to use ChatGPT in iOS 18.
An AI deal between Apple and OpenAI could bring "myriad" revenue opportunities to the tech giant by bringing ChatGPT to the iPhone, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said in a note Monday.

Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) also has a long-standing partnership with OpenAI that was expanded last year.
