Urban Outfitters' stock rallies as chain reports 10% sales gain through holiday period

Shares of Urban Outfitters Inc. (URBN) jumped after hours on Monday after the clothing retailer reported a 10% year-over-year sales gain through November and December. The company said same-store sales during that period jumped 20% at its Free People stores and 14% at Anthropologie, while falling 13% at Urban Outfitters, which has continued to struggle as it tries to be more relevant to younger consumers. The chain also said Shea Jensen - a veteran of Nordstrom Inc. (JWN) and the clothing brand Good American - would come aboard as president of Urban Outfitters Brand, North America on Feb. 5. Shares were up 6% after hours.
