JetBlue announces new planned divestitures as it looks to close Spirit deal next year

JetBlue Airways Corp. (JBLU) has agreed to transfer to Allegiant Travel Co. (ALGT) all of its Spirit Airways Inc. (SAVE) holdings at Boston Logan International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport, according to a Monday morning release. The divestiture agreement, which was announced by JetBlue and Allegiant, comes as JetBlue looks to close its merger with Spirit in the first half of 2024. JetBlue also plans to turn over up to five gates and affiliated ground facilities at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. "Our divestiture commitment, while not needed to ensure the continued growth of the vibrant ultra-low-cost carrier segment, is aimed at removing any doubt of our commitment to promoting competition," JetBlue Chief Executive Robin Hayes said in a release.
