German Bond Yields Fall to Multimonth Lows Amid Tech-Stock Rout
By Emese Bartha
German government bond yields fell to multimonth lows on Friday, tracking U.S. Treasury yields lower in response to a huge selloff in tech stocks.
The Democratic sweep in the U.S. midterm elections raised the prospect of a slowdown in AI and datacenter growth, causing tech stocks to drop sharply.
Bonds currently act as safe havens and shrug off the rise in oil prices, which pushes Brent for front-month January delivery up to $99.44 a barrel.
The 10-year Bund yield fell to 3.208%, the lowest level since late August, while the 30-year yield declined to 3.608%, the lowest since end-July, according to LSEG data.
The two-year yield declined to 2.916%, the lowest since end-August.
"A slowdown in the AI build-out is the base case under Democratic supervision, leaving the AI trade exposed to a huge amount of uncertainty," KBC Bank analysts say in a note.
On Friday, investors will watch U.S. October employment data, where an additional 59,000 jobs is expected, according to The Wall Street Journal's poll.
