Daimler Truck Confirms Guidance as North America Trucks Business Rebounds — Update
By Dominic Chopping
Daimler Truck confirmed its full-year guidance after noting the positive development seen in the second quarter accelerated further in the third quarter, supported by higher volumes and earnings at its Trucks North America unit and progress across the group.
The German truck and bus maker said incoming orders at its North America trucks business grew by 12% on year while order intake at Mercedes-Benz Trucks was up 14%. Overall global order intake rose 10%.
It said the Trucks North America business sold 45,629 units in the quarter, up from 30,225 a year earlier, due to a continued market recovery, while last year's level was burdened by tariff uncertainty. Adjusted earnings at the unit jumped to 691 million euros ($775.3 million) from 257 million euros.
Mercedes-Benz Trucks sold 40,362 units in the quarter, up from 35,818 a year earlier, as Germany in particular made a significant contribution during the period while India also benefited from strong demand due to infrastructure investments and replacement purchases.
Adjusted earnings at Mercedes-Benz Trucks in the quarter rose to 337 million euros from 319 million euros.
"Our third-quarter performance demonstrates that we are continuing to build momentum across the business," said Chief Executive Karin Radstrom.
The company reported third-quarter group unit sales of 91,260, up from 72,277 units a year earlier, while its main industrial business posted a 20% rise in revenue to 11.64 billion euros and a return on sales of 9.1% from 6.2%.
Group adjusted earnings before interest and taxes rose to 1.12 billion euros, a touch higher than the 1.11 billion euros stated in a FactSet analyst forecast.
Daimler Truck backed its full-year outlook metrics and still expects to report revenue this year from the industrial business of between 43 billion and 47 billion euros, an adjusted return on sales of 7% to 9% and free cash flow of 3 billion to 3.5 billion euros.
Group adjusted EBIT is still seen at between 3.6 billion and 4.1 billion euros, with unit sales at between 340,000 and 370,000.
