By Elias Schisgall

Constellation Software reported higher profit and growing revenue in the third quarter, boosted by contributions from acquired businesses.

The company, whose business model involves acquiring smaller software firms, on Friday logged a profit of $212 million, or $10.01 a share. That compares with a profit of $210 million, or $9.89 a share, a year earlier. Analysts polled by FactSet were expecting earnings of $15.17 a share.

Revenue grew 19% to $3.51 billion. Analysts were expecting $3.50 billion. The growth was driven largely by acquisitions, with organic revenue growing 2% during the quarter, Constellation said.

Maintenance and other recurring revenue, which makes up most of the company's topline, rose to $2.72 billion from $2.21 billion a year prior. Professional services revenue rose to $569 million from $538 million, and hardware and other revenue rose to $131 million from $89 million.

Licensing revenue declined to $97 million from $107 million.
