By Rob Curran

Duke Energy's third-quarter net income rose and the power company boosted the lower end of its adjusted earnings projection for the year amid strong demand for electricity and natural gas from residential and commercial users in the Southeast and Midwest.

The Charlotte, N.C., utility operator posted earnings of $1.56 billion, or $1.99 a share, up from $1.42 billion, or $1.81 a share, a year earlier.

Stripping out certain one-off accounting items, Duke's adjusted earnings were also $1.99 a share, handily beating the average Wall Street target of $1.86 a share, as per FactSet.

Revenue rose 6.6% to $9.1 billion, topping the mean analyst estimate of $8.91 billion, according to FactSet.

Duke now anticipates 2026 adjusted earnings in a range between $6.70 and $6.80 a share, compared with a previous projection of $6.55-to-$6.80 a share. The utility company reiterated its long-term adjusted per-share growth projection in a range between 5% and 7% through 2030. That growth rate is calculated using a baseline of $6.30 a share, a target established in 2025. Duke expressed confidence in hitting the top half of the range beginning in 2028.

Duke operates electricity and natural gas utilities in a handful of states.
