Walmart Invests in Texas Battery Company Base Power

Walmart has invested in Texas energy company Base Power as part of a strategic agreement.

Base Power installs, owns and maintains home battery systems, with customers paying an upfront installation fee. The systems are designed to cut energy costs when the grid is on and provide backup power when it isn't.

As part of the deal, Walmart would make Base's home energy offerings available to customers and Sam's Club members. Beginning in November, customers who enroll in eligible Base battery offerings would receive 20% off the standard upfront battery-installation fee.

Texas is Base's biggest and most established market. It serves 35,000 members in the state. Walmart is launching the offerings in Texas first and expects to expand to additional locations over time.
