EU, Canada Launch 'Alliance for the Future' to Deepen Ties

The European Union and Canada launched an "Alliance for the Future" following a two-day summit in Montreal in a move to tighten economic and security ties during U.S. President Trump's second term.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney told reporters on Friday that he has accepted an invitation to a meeting of EU leaders in June as part of a longer-term plan to bring both economies closer together.

Both sides said in a joint statement that they would work more closely in a broad range of areas spanning critical minerals, de-escalation in the Middle East, security, artificial intelligence and instant payment systems.
