Apple Acquired Data-Management Startup Ascend.io in June
By Elias Schisgall
Apple has acquired Ascend.io, a startup that makes automated data management software.
Apple in June received a right to certain of the startup's patents and a non-exclusive license to its intellectual property rights, as well as the right to make employment offers to certain employees.
The transaction was disclosed recently by regulators at the European Commission. Financial terms weren't disclosed.
The website of Ascend.io, whose official corporate name is Ascension Labs, currently contains a message notifying visitors that the company is "winding down operations as we prepare for our next great adventure."
Apple didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
