Porsche Taps Mercedes-Benz Executive to Lead Research and Development
By Dominic Chopping
Porsche on Friday named Mercedes-Benz executive Jorg Bartels as a new board member responsible for research and development.
Bartels, who currently leads the global development of all powertrain systems at Mercedes, will play a key role in shaping Porsche's recently announced long-term strategy, the German sports-car maker said.
He has worked in vehicle development for more than 20 years and has experience ranging from the development of individual components and complex vehicle systems to overall responsibility for entire vehicle platforms and product lines, Porsche added.
"He brings extensive experience in vehicle development and transformation and has worked internationally," Porsche Chief Executive Michael Leiters said. "He will consistently drive forward the realignment of our research and development that is already under way."
Bartels will take up his new position in May next year, replacing Michael Steiner, who has served as member of the executive board for research and development since 2016 and also became deputy chairman in 2025.
