AstraZeneca Posts Revenue, Profit Growth on Strong Cancer-Drug Sales

By Adria Calatayud

AstraZeneca reported increases in revenue and profit for the third quarter, after strong sales of cancer drugs offset the effect of patent expirations to lift the group's top line.

The U.K. drugmaker said Friday that it made a net profit of $3.12 billion for the third quarter, up from $2.535 billion for the same period last year.

Excluding exceptional items, core earnings per share were $2.79, a 19% increase from a year earlier when excluding currency changes. The result beat analysts' expectations for $2.59, according to consensus estimates provided by Visible Alpha.

Quarterly revenue came to $16.21 billion, up 7% at constant exchange rates. Analysts had forecast the company's quarterly revenue at $15.99 billion, according to consensus estimates provided by Visible Alpha.

AstraZeneca said it benefited from double-digit sales growth in its oncology, respiratory and immunology, and rare disease therapeutic areas, which allowed it to offset hits from generic competition for aging medicines Farxiga and Brilinta.

The company reiterated its 2026 guidance, with Chief Executive Pascal Soriot saying AstraZeneca is on track to deliver its 2030 ambition and to sustain growth through the next decade.
