Takeda Pharmaceutical Raises Annual Guidance
By Kosaku Narioka
Takeda Pharmaceutical raised its annual earnings forecasts, after swinging to a net profit in the second quarter.
The Japanese drugmaker on Thursday reported net profit of 192.4 billion yen, equivalent to $1.22 billion, for the three months ended September, compared with a net loss of Y11.8 billion a year earlier. That beat estimated net profit of Y67.8 billion in a poll of analysts by data provider Visible Alpha.
The year-earlier bottom line was weighed by impairment charges related to the cell-therapy research it discontinued as part of a strategic portfolio review.
Second-quarter revenue grew 6.7% from a year earlier to Y1.187 trillion. Sales of ulcerative colitis drug Entyvio climbed 11% to Y273.4 billion and sales of plasma-derived products rose 8.1% to Y277.2 billion.
For the fiscal year ending March 2027, it projected a 4.3% rise in revenue to Y4.700 trillion and net profit of Y209.00 billion, compared with a net loss the previous year. The company previously projected revenue of Y4.640 trillion and net profit of Y166.00 billion for this fiscal year.
