AIA Group's Value of New Business Down in 3Q

By P.R. Venkat

AIA Group's value of new business in the third quarter declined 5% on the year as sales in Hong Kong and mainland China came up against exceptionally strong results from a year earlier.

The insurer's new-business value came in at $1.42 billion, while its new-business margin rose 5.3 percentage points to 63.5%, the company said Friday.

In mainland China, new-business value fell 33%. A year earlier, customers had rushed to buy policies ahead of an industry-wide price increase on Sept. 1, 2025. In Hong Kong, it fell 3%, mainly because of exceptionally strong sales in July 2025.

Outside those two markets, new-business value grew 18%, with double-digit growth in Singapore and Malaysia, and strong growth in India, Taiwan and Vietnam.

The insurer said new-business value rebounded in September, rising more than 25% on the year, and that it expects strong momentum in the fourth quarter as the year-earlier comparison eases.
