BASF Narrows Earnings Forecast After Strong Quarter
By Andrea Figueras
Germany's BASF raised the lower and upper ends of its earnings target range for this year after reporting what it said was a strong performance in the most recent quarter.
The chemicals giant forecast full-year adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization in a range of 7.4 billion euros to 7.8 billion euros ($8.23 billion-$8.68 billion). This compares with a previous guidance range between 6.9 billion euros and 7.7 billion euros.
The company booked sales of 16.4 billion euros for the third quarter. This was 14% higher compared with the prior-year period and ahead of analysts' projections of 15.67 billion euros, according to a poll of estimates provided by the company.
Ebitda before special items rose 15% on year to 1.6 billion euros.
"All core businesses contributed to this," the company said Wednesday.
BASF continues to estimate free cash flow of between 1.5 billion euros and 2.3 billion euros this year.
