Coca-Cola Raises Fiscal Year Outlook as Increased Volumes, Prices Boost 3Q Results
By Kelly Cloonan
Coca-Cola raised its forecast for the year after higher volumes and prices lifted results in the latest quarter.
The beverage conglomerate on Tuesday posted a third-quarter profit of $4.06 billion, or 93 cents a share, compared with $3.68 billion, or 86 cents a share, a year earlier.
Adjusted earnings per share were 91 cents, compared with analyst estimates of 88 cents, according to FactSet.
Revenue grew 7% to $13.38 billion, compared with analyst estimates of $12.92 billion.
Organic revenue growth was 7%, driven by increased concentrate sales and higher prices.
Unit case volume rose 5%, with growth in trademark Coca-Cola as well as in Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and Diet Coke. Sparkling flavors and water volumes also rose.
Chief Executive Henrique Braun said the results show the company's sustained momentum.
"By staying close to consumers and executing with agility across our global system, we are delivering quality growth while continuing to invest in the capabilities, brands and people that will fuel our future," Braun said.
For the full year, Coca-Cola now projects adjusted earnings-per-share growth of at least 11%, compared with a prior outlook of 9% to 10%. It now expects organic revenue growth of at least 5%, compared with its previous view of about 5%.
Coca-Cola recently struck a deal to provide beverages to thousands of KFC's U.S. restaurants, in a blow to KFC's longtime supplier, PepsiCo. The switch, set to begin in January, comes as restaurants assess their beverage offerings as they look to appeal to younger consumers and boost profits.
