Maruti Suzuki Profit Falls Despite Higher Revenue
By Tracy Qu
Maruti Suzuki India reported weaker second-quarter net profit despite a rise in revenue, partly due to higher commodity prices stemming from the Middle East conflict.
The Indian unit of Japanese carmaker Suzuki Motor said Tuesday that net profit fell 26% from a year earlier to 24.66 billion rupees, equivalent to $259.1 million, for the three months ended September.
Revenue climbed 26% to 533.56 billion rupees, supported by growth in sales volume.
The automaker said it sold a record 696,654 units in July-September, up 26.5% from the previous year. Despite geopolitical challenges, it exported 108,119 vehicles during the quarter, down about 2% from the year-ago period.
