Infineon to Invest Around 1.1 Billion Euros in Villach Site
By Sarah Sloat
Infineon is investing about 1.1 billion euros ($1.23 billion) in its Villach site to address growing demand for energy-efficient semiconductors.
Specifically, the company is investing in a high-volume manufacturing facility for next-generation gallium nitride power semiconductors. In the project, Infineon will be investing in its existing facilities at the Villach, Austria, site by 2034.
Gallium nitride enables efficiency gains in various applications, including artificial intelligence data centers and energy infrastructure, the German chip company said.
Production is set to start by the end of 2027.
The investment will be supported under the European Chips Act, and the European Commission-approved state aid for the project.
