Lockheed Martin Gets Hypersonic Missile Contract From US Air Force
By Stephen Nakrosis
Lockheed Martin said it was awarded a $694 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to produce the hypersonic capable Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon.
The weapon, which is integrated on the B-52, is capable of reaching speeds greater than Mach 5. The new weapon builds on more than 60 years of hypersonic strike experience, Lockheed said.
The company said the $8 billion to $9 billion investment it has planned through 2030 to meet munitions demand is already delivering tangible results.
Earlier today, the company broke ground on an expansion of its Troy, Ala. facility, which will add 47,000 square feet of production space for the ARRW, it said.
