easyJet Signs Up for Starlink
By Joshua Kirby
Budget airline easyJet said it will offer passengers high-speed internet via SpaceX's Starlink service.
The service will be rolled out across the London-listed group's Airbus A320 and A321 fleet from the first half of next year, and should be finalized by the following year, easyJet said Monday. Starlink offers internet communications via a system of more than 11,000 satellites in orbit.
"The deployment will transform the onboard experience for customers, allowing them to stream, game and browse on their own devices, just as they would on the ground, with access to the fast, reliable connectivity managed by Starlink," easyJet said.
The move adds to the number of airlines using Starlink, which is now available in more than 3,800 aircraft, SpaceX said in an earnings report last week. American Airlines, Southwest and United are among the carriers that have reached deals to offer Starlink.
More European airlines are also offering the service. Starlink said last year the services would be made available on airlines owned by International Airlines Group, including British Airways, Ireland's Aer Lingus, and Spain's Iberia and Vueling. Others including Air France and German group Lufthansa are also rolling out the service across their fleets.
