Week Ahead for FX, Bonds: Decisions From Fed, -2-
Strong export-led growth could bolster the case for further monetary tightening, with inflation still well above the BOK's 2% target.
Thailand
The Bank of Thailand is expected to keep interest rates unchanged Wednesday as it balances inflation pressures against uneven and subdued economic growth, DBS economists said.
The BOT is among the few central banks that haven't tightened policy this year, even as others, including the Federal Reserve, have raised rates to combat inflation.
Deputy Gov. Piti Disyatat told The Wall Street Journal in a recent interview that the central bank can maintain its supportive stance as long as macroeconomic conditions remain stable.
Headline inflation rose in September but remained within the BOT's target range, near the upper end, DBS said. The central bank is likely to look through what it views as temporary, supply-driven price pressures and refrain from tightening, the economists added.
Taiwan
Taiwan releases third-quarter GDP data Friday, with economists expecting another quarter of double-digit growth fueled by demand for semiconductors and other artificial-intelligence-related products.
The export-driven economy likely remained exceptionally strong despite mounting concerns about AI financing. Third-quarter exports rose 45% from a year earlier amid sustained global demand for chips and related technology.
Economists caution, however, that any reversal in the AI boom could pose a significant risk to growth.
