ICE Review: Canola Slightly Higher, Crude Supports Vegetable Oils
WINNIPEG, Manitoba--Canola futures on the Intercontinental Exchange made small advances heading into the weekend as rising crude oil supported the vegetable oils.
Ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East raised crude-oil prices and, in turn, brought gains to Chicago soyoil, European rapeseed and Malaysian palm oil on Friday.
The Saskatchewan canola harvest advanced by seven points at 96% complete as of Oct. 19.
The Canadian Grain Commission reported 158,300 metric tons of canola were exported during the week ended Oct. 18, down from 248,400 tons the previous week. So far this marketing year, 1.377 million tons of canola were exported, compared to 955,300 tons a year ago.
Domestic use for canola during the week was 247,900 tons, less than the 296,100 tons reported the week before. In 2026-27, 2.608 million tons of canola were used domestically, compared to 2.312 million last year.
The Canadian dollar added one-tenth of a U.S. cent compared to Thursday's close.
There were 73,914 canola contracts traded on Friday, compared to Thursday when 92,080 contracts changed hands. Spreads accounted for 44,580 contracts.
Settlement prices are in Canadian dollars per metric ton.
