Munich Re Hikes Profit Guidance After Better-Than-Expected Third Quarter
By Michael Hennessey
Munich Re raised its full-year profit guidance as it reported higher-than-forecast preliminary earnings for the third quarter.
The German reinsurer reported a preliminary net profit of around 1.7 billion euros ($1.91 billion), down from 2.00 billion euros a year ago, but ahead of the company-compiled consensus forecast of 1.48 billion euros.
Munich Re raised its 2026 net profit guidance to 6.6 billion euros from 6.3 billion euros, following a net result of 5.7 billion euros for the first nine months of the year. It reported a net profit of 6.12 billion euros in 2025.
The third-quarter result was driven by a "very pleasing" performance in all segments, major losses below average expectations in property and casualty reinsurance and a strong investment result in reinsurance, Munich Re said.
The company will report its final third-quarter results on Nov. 12.
