Iberdrola's Earnings Rise as Networks Growth Accelerates

By Adam Whittaker

Spanish energy company Iberdrola posted higher earnings for the first nine months of the year, driven by accelerated growth in its networks division.

The company said Wednesday that net profit for the period grew nearly 10% from the same period a year prior to 5.82 billion euros, equivalent to $6.54 billion.

Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization rose 7.5% to 11.89 billion euros following a nearly 15% rise in adjusted earnings across its networks business, which benefited from regulated asset growth and higher rates in the U.S. and Brazil.

This helped offset a weaker performance in its power and customers business, where adjusted earnings fell 1.5%, the company said.

Investments rose by 13% to just over 10 billion euros, with more than 75% of the figure invested in the U.K., U.S., and Brazil, it said.
