Ray-Ban Maker EssilorLuxottica's Sales Rise, Buoyed by Smartglasses

By Andrea Figueras

EssilorLuxottica, the maker of Ray-Ban and Oakley glasses, said sales grew in the third quarter, helped by strong demand for the smartglasses it produces in partnership with Meta Platforms.

The Franco-Italian company logged revenue of 7.49 billion euros, equivalent to $8.40 billion, for the three months through September, implying a 7.2% increase compared with the same period a year earlier, excluding currency movements. This was weaker than the 8.7% rise it posted in the second quarter, but revenue came in ahead of a Visible Alpha consensus of 7.37 billion euros.

Analysts at Stifel said in a recent note that despite fragile consumer sentiment, the contribution from smart eyewear should help the company stand out.

Sales of smartglasses, powered by artificial intelligence and produced in partnership with tech giant Meta, jumped 20% in the third quarter, confirming the strong momentum of the category. Last month, the companies unveiled new products, features and updates to existing lines, as well as plans to sell these devices in more markets.

EssilorLuxottica confirmed its five-year guidance of solid growth in total revenue and broadly aligned increases in adjusted operating profit. It didn't offer any numerical guidance.
