Kayem Foods Recalls About 1.6 Million of Meat Products Due to Temperature Issues
By Josh Beckerman
Kayem Foods is voluntarily recalling 1.6 million pounds of meat products due to storage temperature deviations.
A recall notice posted by the Agriculture Department's Food Safety and Inspection Service listed products such as Al Fresco chicken sausages, Kayem hot dogs and bacon and McKenzie ham and turkey.
There have been no confirmed reports of illness. FSIS said the issue was discovered following a retail customer complaint about warm product temperatures at point of delivery on Oct. 1.
Kayem said a cooling-system malfunction at a warehouse resulted in the temperature deviations.
The Chelsea, Mass., company said it takes food safety very seriously and it has learned from and corrected the issue.
