GSK Says Lung-Cancer Drug Shows Benefits in Global Trial
By Adria Calatayud
GSK said an early-stage global clinical trial of a drug it licensed from China's Hansoh Pharmaceutical Group showed a majority of lung-cancer patients saw their tumors shrink or disappear.
The U.K. drugmaker said Monday that the first global results for the drug, risvutatug rezetecan--or ris-rez--, in extensive-stage small cell lung cancer build on positive data from a China-only late-stage study that its partner Hansoh recently reported.
GSK said ris-rez triggered a 61% objective response rate--the proportion of patients whose cancer shrinks or disappears after treatment--in the global trial.
The data support an accelerated development for the drug, GSK said. The company is conducting late-stage trials of ris-rez in advanced forms of lung and prostate cancers and plans additional studies in earlier phases of the diseases.
