Volvo Creates New Mining Unit to Capture Industry Growth

By Dominic Chopping

STOCKHOLM--Volvo is creating a new dedicated mining unit to take advantage of growth in the sector.

The Swedish truckmaker said Monday that the new Volvo Mining unit aims to bring together the group's capabilities and products for mining customers under a single, integrated business structure.

Volvo Mining will sell Volvo trucks, construction equipment and autonomous solutions to mining customers and their contractors, it said.

"As mining enters a new phase of growth and transformation, Volvo Mining will provide the focus needed to help customers meet increased demand for productivity, safety and resilience," it said in a statement.

The new entity will be launched on Jan. 1, 2027 and will sit within the Volvo Construction Equipment business division. It will initially focus on mining customers and contractors in Sweden, Norway and Finland, with plans for a phased expansion into additional markets later.

Per-Erik Lindstrom, who currently heads Volvo Trucks International, has been appointed head of Volvo Mining, effective Jan. 1 2027.
